astraea I don't get that "pedestal sinks are a bathroom favorite", because they're really not practical or a good use of space. God knows, I grew up in a house built in the early 1900s, that had pedestal sinks when the house was renovated in the 1940s .. NO STORAGE! And the framed mirrors?! Isn't the idea so you can see how you look - and to make sure everything's "back in place" when you leave the bathroom? So how practical is it to have a pretty framed mirror that only shows you from mid-chest up?! Other side effect; before when you had built-in mirrors, they stayed when the house was sold. With these framed ones that hang like a picture, you can buy a house & realize all the mirrors have been removed! Below are the 2 "replacement mirrors" I had to rush out & buy.

dmartinez67 Does nobody brush their teeth? Where do they put their make up and contact lens solution? Pretty, but the bathrooms don't look practical.

lindaleibowitz I love my pedestal sinks because the bathroom is small and it feels more open now. I went to the Container store and designed a rolling cart that I tuck into my closet. I pull it up to the sink and have all of my "sink things" in the top drawer and get to work. when I'm all done at the sink, I roll my make up cart back into the closet and my bath is tidy and clear of clutter.

Jessica Rice It looks like most of these light fixtures will not provide enought lumens for make-up and shaving...

lelaag I had a half bath that had a pedestal sink, which means no storage for even rolls of TP. I went to a discount store and purchased a decorative hat box. My problem was solved! I later purchased a decorated square box for room deodorizer and cleaning wipes. It sure added a cute quality to this tiny space.

astraea Lelagg .. I did the same thing! When a favorite furniture store had a clearance sale, I got a tiny handpainted corner cabinet, for a few extra rolls of TP, and a spray!

trasgorshek I always thought of pedestals more for powder rooms simply because of the storage issue but the ones shown here with the added storage are simply gorgeous and I would love to have in our master.

I do have to admit, when we moved into our home my second project was our powder room with pedestal. It was one of those little bitty ones without any counter space so I really couldn't even put soup up there. What I did was take a bedside table my sister game me and converted it over with a vessel sink (plus tile the floor, etc). Still not large but the room itself isn't large. At least we have storage for TP and a little counter space now, and it didn't break the bank since the table was free :).

trasgorshek Well my daughter was just on Houzz and had to inform me I don't know how to spell. I think it's pretty safe to say that everyone knows I meant soap and not soup on my previous comment. :)

patscats2 That second to last photo with the orange wallpaper looks kind of foolish with the mirror centered over nothing and off center from the basin. That last photo with that gian corbels is ugly. Sorry, someone had to say it. The rest are all very attractive.

astraea patscats2 - Too many things going on in that bathroom too! That mirror is so ornate, as is the wallpaper .. but are those hydrants in the design?! Too "whimsical" in contrast .. guess we're lucky it doesn't include a dog with a "leg up"!

lanehouse I actually LOVE the orange-wallpapered bathroom. While trying to decide on a vanity mirror, I leaned another mirror on the counter at my elbow for the necessary stuff like flossing. I'm so used to it (and am happy not to be always looking at myself when I'm at the sink) that I'm loathe to hang one now! I think off-setting the mirror (which is gorgeous) makes sense of that small wall, and was the only solution for incorporating the sconces without squishing it all to the space above the sink. What you need to see you can see well enough where the mirror is now. It's in my ideabook now and I'm thrilled to see such a successful example of thinking outside the box!

woolylam I didn't even notice the hydrants until I read it in the comments. I think a dog pic would be a great addition! :) Definitely a sense of humor there.

tammis I think the orange coloured bathroom would have have beautiful if the mirror was placed directly above sink and lights beside mirror on right side one above the other.

ldrcarteret26 does anyone have a bathroom mirror with a tv in it? we are remodeling and thinking of putting one over the sink - any suggestions???

An FYI for Houzz...people do read and take information from these comments. Thanks for a place to do this. Love, love, love bathrooms 1 and 3. Desperately need to remodel our bathroom and I wander through these pages daily for inspiration. Enjoy hearing from everyday people along with those who might be pros. Great stuff.

trasgorshek Thank you Susan! I'm always on the lookout for a different table to use in there, but you just can't beat free! Well minus the sink basin and faucet that is.

We have soup in there on a daily bases, but it's usually cold. ;)
