When I want to add a pattern to a room, I know I can count on diamonds. You can use them subtly in tile or have big fun with contrasting hues reminiscent of a harlequin or argyle pattern. A DIYer can create this look on a wall or piece of furniture with paint and painter's tape. Or you can use wallpaper for a similar effect.

Candyce Preston This is the entrance hall to my condo. It took forever to "do the math" and tape the wall but it was a fun project! Most people think it's wallpaper until they touch it.

Candyce Preston Shoshana - It would have been way too easy to simply plum the middle and start from there! But no. I mapped the entire wall on graph paper and started the pattern from the edge. I actually cut a harlequin diamond pattern from cardboard and mad pencil marks on the wall to tape from. It was theraputic - I worked on it each night with a glass of wine in one hand!

Casart Coverings Wow, I really like these examples. The harlequin pattern is a sophisticated way to make instant impact in a room. What about a Faux Padded Harlequin in a removable, reusable wallcovering? Here's a before and after example that was originally hand-painted and can be custom printed to paint colors.
