Moroney
Hi Jim & Barbara -
I've been saving photos on this site to give me direction on your house. Here are a few that I wanted to send to you to see what your reaction is -- to my comments. Look at the specific thing I am pointing out not necessarily the overall photo. I have yet to find a photo of exactly what I am trying to accomplish. This is a good thing. Your home will be uniquely yours.
My philosophy on this house is that I would like to warm up the space with texture using natural products. This house is large overall and the floor plan makes it extremely open and airy. This can tend to make the space seem more modern and cold. The metal doors also bring a modern feeling to the space. We need to make it more cozy and warm. In my past conversations with you about the house being modern you were adamant that you did not want a modern house so my goal is to warm this house up.
The Flagstone on the pillars and Great Room fireplace will help do this. John would like to use the flagstone on the floors as well. I am reluctant to use flagstone. It is an uneven material which creates several problems with scribing toe kick, cabinetry and baseboards to the floor. It also creates rocky furniture. I am searching for a tile that we can use that has that “flagstone” unequal tile feeling. I’m not sure how successful I will be but I would like to show you some other options. I have pulled a few ideas from Walker Zanger so I will have to send a separate email with that information.
At this point I am just trying to get your feedback to lead me in the right direction for John's budget.
Thank you,
Michele

Combination of wood (don't like the grain), rustic stone (like flagstone) and metal windows. Don't like the Charcoal hood. Ours will be aged copper. Don't like the solid stone counters. Ours will be leathered warm colored stone Can talk about this. Grain not so bad. Probably can do better. Stone is a possibility. Agree on hood. Not sure what leathered warm colored stone is.
