| Q. What's your go-to dish for a dinner party? A. I like to keep it simple for dinner parties. I’ll never forget the time I got too ambitious with my menu and ended up doing dishes in the bathtub the next day. It was a great party, but I think I used every bowl, pot, pan and utensil I owned. Lately, I have been really into cooking up a big pot of mussels with garlic, wine and lots of parsley, with a side of whatever vegetables are in season — peas and fava beans sauteed with shallots are a current favorite — and some sliced sourdough bread to soak up all of the delicious juices from the mussels. For dessert I love rustic fruit tarts, pies or crumbles with ice cream. |

| Q. What are three kitchen luxuries you love? A. Delicious-smelling dishwashing soap for all of my hand-washed dishes — Mrs. Meyer’s Basil Scent is my favorite — my Le Creuset and All-Clad cookware that I hope will last a lifetime, and my Ateco cake turntable. It is heavy and hard to store, but it makes cake decorating so easy. |

"show up and be 'nice' or show up and be real?" This is the reason I don't usually make any comments....my preference is to show up and be real.
It's important that the cutting board sits securely which is why you should do the extra work of giving the board a lip. If you just place the piece of board on top of the sink it will move around and you risk cutting yourself so be safe! I included a picture to give you an idea of what I'm talking about (I complete stole the picture of google so I don't know where you can buy one.) For more inspiration try and do a google image search using the search words: "sink cutting board"
Some older gas ranges has a top that flips down to make extra space. While yours may not a piece of board the size of the range will do the job nestled atop the grates. If it's made from wood and is fairly thick - an inch or more - the size of the board should weigh enough to make it stay put otherwise you can make it more secure give the board a couple of peglegs that fit into the base of the top of the range.
Get that gal into a commercial kitchen and she will take over the world!
Isn;t it a good thing when you can create and not worry about space . Take all the emphisis on what you don't have away. Replace it with what you do have!!
Bravo! I would love some blueberry pie, please. This girl cooks!
I have designed massive kitchens for clients, that never cook. To each their own.
It is all about making your space , your space.
Yossy... have you considered installing a shallow folding table on the one wall ajacent to the sink? I believe Ikea carries them. Just a board on a hinge with a leg/support bracket with the whole thing folding flat against the wall when not in use. Either way, not hard to make and easy to remove when moving.
