I work as a blogger for businesses although I do a variety of different types of writing. I particularly enjoy writing about all aspects of design and creativity. I think that your home should reflect your personality and that it should change as you change. More about me at www.kathrynvercillo.com and http://diaryofasmartchick.com.
Adding Japanese Touches to your Modern Home (6 comments)
Everything about this room reflects the inspiration of Japanese design. The furnishings are simple and sparse. Every item in the room has a purpose. Wood forms the basis of the design. Simple, elegant and totally modern.

This modern kitchen gets a bit of Japanese flair from the simple wooden cabinet that we see pictured here. If only the dishes inside were inspired by Japanese design - it would be perfect!

This is one of my favorite examples of adding Japanese style to your home. It's a bathroom that has a traditional wooden sauna and spa built into it. What an oasis!

This room is all decked out in Japanese style but really you need to only add a bed like this to your bedroom to get the feeling that is evoked here. A high-rising platform bed with tatami mats underneath the mattress is comfortable and stylish.

It's the umbrellas that stand out in this kids' room but also notice how many Hello Kitty items there are here. This is a favorite Japanese character. Add it to a child's room to get some modern Japanese flair.

This Japanese-inspired room is a little bit much for me personally. However, my eye is definitely caught by that Japanese calligraphy poster. That alone would be a great little touch added to your modern home.

Calligraphy isn't the only option that you have when hanging Japanese posters on the wall. Framed Japanese prints are another good choice - especially set off against the red wall like we see here!

It's the little things that we're talking about here and this little set is a great example of that. It can work well in any home either on display or when pulled out for use.

Your yard is the perfect place to add a bit of Japanese zen style to the home. A Zen garden is a great way to do this.

Another way to add simple Japanese elegance to your yard is to choose decorative rocks emblazoned with Japanese calligraphy and display them strategically in the yard.

Great ideabook! I love the Japanese aesthetic but have never wanted to go all out. Just seems like it would feel like living in a museum. I like the way Arts & Crafts homes incorporate Japanese lines, and we tried to do the same with our home's newly remodeled exterior which is inspired by both Japanese design & the traditional American barn. Beautiful! Especially that bathroom. Wow!

Coat closet doors don't have to be boring. These were treated like Japanese screens, to brighten up the hall the family enters from the garage.

Sorry about the photo above, it's not sideways on my computer. Anyway, these stair risers are visible from a dining room and where always scuffed and dirty. We used the patterns from an Imari bowl.
