Denise Vilim What a fantastic idea! Our DIY house renovation is going on month 16 and I can definitely relate to being overrun with the old. My garage, tidy and organized not so long ago, is now flooded with old shelving, wood strips, partial cabinets and an endless amount of various other scraps. Known to some as a bleeding-heart tree-hugger and an avid DIY enthusiast, I just can not bring myself to give all this stuff to the local landfill and although our city recycles, they unfortunately do not accept any type of wood. Hopefully I can one day find a creative reuse like this for all of it.

newmouse Aprilaries, after our renovation, our local Habitat for Humanity came to my garage and took almost everything - even things that looked like scraps to me. It was great because they were happy to have it, and I didn't have to do anything. Very little ended up having to be disposed of. Give them a call.

js72455 The instant I saw those stairs, I knew what they old flooring because I recognized the flooring on the bottom step as having been like that in my great-grandparents' home. I think the brown, red, and tan one (in the bottom picture) was in my great-great aunt's farmhouse. This is a wonderful way to salvage some of our history. Using it as it was originally designed to be used continues to give honor to it, I think, although I'm a bit saddened by the thought of it eventually being worn away by foot traffic and lost forever.
