Staircases and landings. Though often perceived as the "in-between" spaces in a dwelling, they are arguably one of the most trafficked. A dweller conscious of their home's full potential doesn't disregard the beauty that can be created out of staircases and landings. Like life itself, sometimes the journey and "in-between" space is just as important as the final destination. The following staircase areas are so beautiful and thought-out that they become the final destination in and of themselves.

| A sturdy, masculine look to a landing. Beautiful to behold when making those billions of trips up and down the stairs, this area also offers the practical convenience of a soft place to land, rest, read, tie shoes. For children, random and secretive sort of places like this offer a very CS Lewis-ish space for create play. |
An entire little room is made of this stairwell corner. What a view of the interior and exterior, from the window seat. A fainting couch or cushioned bench could easily replace the built-in window seat for the same effect.

This. is. awesome. For older kids, this adds a bit of personal space within the common living area. And this little space doesn't lack a bit of sophistication. Go ahead. You know you want to get up there when the kids are out. It's okay. I won't tell.
Why save the innovation and attention for the "main" rooms only? The staircase itself offers uniquely breathtaking beauty. Such shape. Such color contrast. Its surroundings--from the crown moulding to the door shape to the meticulous wall hangings to the shining floors--don't disappoint. To put it lightly.
Another beautiful staircase view. And what an unusual and amazing light.
"What light through yonder window breaks." These multi-level landings create an open feel to this awesomely-shaped hallway--and adds a very Shakespearean sort of balcony that connect every space of this dwelling.

This staircase wouldn't appear lacking in any way without this rest area. But the simple and thought-out addition of the right shaped table and chair, the great lighting, and the discreet wall hangings finish this space off with such style.
In this case, the open ladder-like staircase connects the two floors of this study slash library. A certain professionalism and order exists within this personalized intimate work space. Love it.
