Space is in limited supply for city dwellers like me. Not only am I challenged with lack of space (and storage) in my own apartment, but also in the planning and design of my client's spaces. One thing I have learned: A small space can be just as chic as a larger one (possibly even quirkier and more fun!)
Often restrictions on space encourage us to think outside the box, resulting in unique and practical solutions. With the right planning and clever tricks a tight space can be turned into a functional office, reading nook, or a cozy bedroom.
Karen Evans On a recent family vacation we stayed in a hotel that had once been an apartment building. I couldn't help but lie in bed and think about how I would utilize the space if it were my apartment. High shelving can be functional and attractive. Also, there are options like sleeper sofas and ottomons that transform into twin beds. A shelving unit/room divider could be used to separate areas creating rooms within a room.
Casart Coverings These are great ideas that make a big difference. I like the metallic curtain! Who knew that could make such an impact.
There are lots of small spaces as city dwellings where I am. Here's an idea for some cool artwork that was recently installed in a midsize tween's room but can be used anywhere to make the space look larger. It can be removed as she outgrows or as a typical teen, may change her mind and then can be stored and reused again.
