Summer is sizzling here in Los Angeles, with the past few days well into the 90s, and I spend a lot of my day on construction sites with no air conditioning. I don't know about you, but hot weather slows me down. I always feel like I left a few brain cells at home.
These soaring temperatures got me thinking about refreshments. After a long day of construction site visits, installations and furniture shopping, I love a cold drink. When I got home, I kicked off my heels and had some tart lemonade with lots of ice and a sprig of mint. Delicious! I also decided to have a little fun.
Inspired by my ice cold glass of lemonade, I took a look at rooms on Houzz that remind me of a cool summertime beverage. Sure enough, I think these designers may have been inspired by the relief of a cold drink on a hot day. Take a look, pour yourself something cold and stay cool!

Lemonade: What tastes better than ice-cold lemonade when the temperatures are soaring? This room is like a lemonade, with a twist of modern. A great lemon peel pattern on the ceiling tops off the vintage chandelier and shiny silver and gold touches.

Lime fizz: Try a mix of ginger ale, lime juice, mint and ice, of course. This tropical sunroom says lime all over. The palette is really very simple: green, black and white, with neutrals mixed in. The formal paneling is played down by the addition of lush palms and whimsical birdcage references. Notice the great contrast of the black floor against the bright white walls.

Virgin bloody mary: Who knew that tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, lemon and black pepper could be so refreshing (sans vodka, of course). Don't forget the celery stalk.

Sun tea: Tea bags, water, sugar and sunshine make up this old favorite. The beautiful, tea-toned cabinets are color perfect with minimalist detail. The main texture and detail in this bathroom comes from the overhead "sunny" pendant of capiz shells.

Oreo milkshake: Don't put your blender away just yet. Throw in some milk, Oreos and ice cream. While blending, take a look at this gorgeous black and white vignette. This dramatic chest of drawers has perfect symmetry, yet the art piece is not centered. It's offset by the tall buffet lamp and accessories.

Not me, I have a crush on orange, especially when paired with modern lines and hints of black. This seating arrangement is smooth and simple. Its monochromatic palette packs a punch against the black cocktail table. Pour yourself some orange juice, add plain yogurt, ice and honey, and blend. |
Vanilla milkshake: This entry is vanilla perfection complete with shiny silver details that remind me of tall silver spoons. The reflective surfaces create a formal flavor punctuated by a yummy view. A frosty chandelier drips over the seating area, just for fun.
