Spell it Out for Me
Stylish Decor Puts it in Writing
You can evoke a lot of things through color, texture and style, but sometimes there's nothing better to get the point across than a few well chosen words. Whether it's a friendly reminder to wash up or a warning in red, a sign or line of stenciled text can be cheeky, helpful, and a heck of a lot more straightforward than any other method of communication. Take a look at how these homes around Houzz incorporate a bit of text into their design.

Unlike a bright hazard strip, this notice looks good, is worded politely and still catches one's attention enough to heed its advice.

When there's a youngin' in the house, it never hurts to have an extra reminder prominently placed somewhere in the bathroom — and when the design riffs on on a popular poster style, all the better.

Not all signs have to be of the bossy variety. This one provides a sweet message to greet you first thing in the morning. At that hour, it's probably much more welcome than anything a mirror would have to offer.

Here a little sign helps clarify that yes, indeed, the plants are edible.

Gathering the extended family around the table can at times feel like one big therapy session — or on the other hand, like you'll need one later.

And it seems the bathroom is fraught with potential for signage.

With a stenciled sign, I'll never forget just what I packed away in that old trunk or crate again. Although "tchotchkes, paper to shred, board games and junk" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as this succinct wording.

sharon green i love one word statements so i have a few. one on my front porch. i added it for christmas a couple of years ago but now i never take it down. "believe". i also added one word in my kitchen gathering room to remind myself everyday what my new mantra is..."simplify". at my backdoor....which is where everyone comes in and also leads to our garden....it says "harvest blessings".

shabbydoll I have the same letters that read "sit" echelon! Can I be honest and tell you that I don't like them placed on an angle though? It's too much. Just saying "fun" is fun enough. Sorry, just my 2 cents.
