The day disco officially died I was only 7, but no one remembered to tell my friends and me, who continued to enjoy disco skating around my BFF's basement to Diana Ross, Donna Summer, and Lipps Inc. for many years that followed. The unfinished room had a Disco Machine (a stereo with flashing lights on the bottom, a record player and an 8-track deck), a glittering disco ball, and a big stack of K-Tel compilations and Bee Gees records.
Looking around Houzz, my heart skips a beat when I see a room with a dash of Studio 54 glitz. Disco style has been reinterpreted and still coarses through design in many ways; here are a few rooms that may make you want to shake your groove thing.

This room reminds me of an early '80s Diana Ross outfit, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Has anyone ever topped her glamorous disco style? I think not. She mastered the combination of big gems, beading, and strong hues like rich purples, electric magentas, and deep reds.

Bob R We all liked the desk area in the closet - but why did they forget to add some funky type storage so the idea really worked well in daily usage? If there's anything we need tons of, it's places to put all our office/desk stuff. Even wall mounted storage would have helped but still kept everything fun as all heck.

Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR Becky, you remember that unfinished room waaaay too clearly. C'mon, fess up -- you have a room decorated like that right now, don't you? My personal guilty pleasure is to turn on Haddaway's "What Is Love?" at top volume and boogie like I mean it. Might just have to get a disco ball now that I've seen this IB.

Becky Harris I was just talking with my BFF last night and telling her she needs to put the disco machine in her living room (it's still in her parents' basement). She was recalling how awesome it was that the lights on the bottom flashed to the pulsing beats of "Night on Disco Mountain."
