Design Details: Colorful Lampshades
Pick an Unexpected Hue to Top Your Table Lamp or Sconce
Each spring I find myself wanting more color in my home. A simple way to bring the changing season into our interiors is through flowers, vibrant pillows and other small accessories. But what about a colorful lampshade? Placing a few in a room can be unexpected, and as the examples in this ideabook show, they can become a dynamic aspect of the room design.
A lampshade featuring a pattern of soft hues creates an understated yet effective contrast against the pale blue walls.
This room is certainly not shy, adding yellow lampshades on both a floor lamp and sconces at the fireplace. The room just wouldn't be the same without this unexpected addition of color.
The beautiful orange lampshade make this vignette feel complete.
In a simple room of whites and contrasting dark woods, a single green lampshade is a fresh accent.
A bold plaid wrapping a pair of lampshades brings in a fun pop of color and pattern while casting warm shadows.
Placing the red lampshade on a white lamp set against brilliant blue walls was a brilliant move! The colors are repeated on the panels hung above the bed, while white linens balance this abundance of strong color.
Two orange lampshades set in the window effectively repeat the orange used elsewhere in the room as an accent color, as on the side chair and in the floral display.
One bright lampshade, set among bold blacks and whites, introduces a perfect accent of color.
One of my favorite DIY projects is to dress up a simple white lampshade using fabric, trim and fabric glue. This charming lampshade is a great example of how effective this project can be.
Sky blue shades featuring a beautiful sheen stand out against walls in a similar hue, adding to the character of this room in a way white shades could not.
