As graceful as their name implies, demilune tables have long held high status among their console counterparts. In French, "demilune" means "half-moon," a picturesque description of these tables' semicircular shape. They blend an elegant, feminine form with space-saving functionality — because their flat rear sides sit flush against the wall, they fit in where a round table might not, and their curves make more efficient use of square footage than a rectangular or oval style would.

Demilune tables can be a wonderful replacement for traditional nightstands. Their slim profile saves bedside space yet allows enough room for necessities such as a lamp, a water glass and reading material. Plus, there are no sharp corners on which to bang your thigh as you stumble out of bed in the morning.
Often, a demilune's beauty lies in its legs. The exaggerated curves and delicate carving on this Chinese-style piece lend exotic flair and a layer of texture to a neutral space. A mirror above a demilune is a classic touch that visually opens up a room in the same way the table does.

Charmean Neithart Interiors, LLC. Hi Lisa. Such a versatile piece indeed. I always try to snatch them up when I find them in antique stores. Thank you so much for using my picture, I found the 19th century Chinese demilune and fell in love with them, that was one of a pair. Lisa Robinson It would be great to have two half-circle tables--use like demi-luna tables most of the time, but then be able to put them together to make a full circle when extra space is needed for parties, dining, etc.

olldbobbi I didn't know their name but I think they're a great idea for areas with limited space, that still need a little dressing up. And the fact that they cut storage and display in half is not always a bad idea!

Diamondflame I agree these demilunes are perfect when you need something less obstructive than a regular console. Trouble is they can be pretty hard to come by.

Susie Q Design Studio They can be created pretty easily from a round table found at any secondhand store. Cut the table at any depth in the curve and use each end with legs for a matching set. You just have to secure the table to the wall with a couple of L brackets attached inside the skirt of the table. I made one to use for a small desk. Cheap, easy and a fun DIY project.
