New Classics: Lumière Chandelier by Jean de Merry
With artfully arranged bristles that bring a daring edge to rooms and an interplay of light, this fixture can't help but be a focal point
There's a spiky light fixture that's at once futuristic and Sputnik retro and catches my attention whenever I see it. (These sightings are quite rare.) The nest-like sculpture by Jean de Merry is called the Lumière Chandelier. It hangs from ceilings in all sorts of rooms and finds a place within all kinds of design styles. The Lumière hovers over dining tables, floats in elegant salons and draws attention in tiny powder rooms and vast great rooms. See if you have a room in mind for this unique fixture.

There are a range of different finishes available (polished or satin nickel, ebonized metal), but the antiqued brass finish lends the fixture its space-age retro appeal. The lights nestled within the metal reflect off it, adding more variation to the metallic tones.
Sizes range from 30 inches by 24 inches to 60 inches by 32 inches. A well-placed Lumière draws the eye up in this jewel box of a powder room. The finish plays off the mirror, the sconces and the vanity's hardware.
When placed among rough-hewn beams in a mountain home, the fixture becomes a modern aerie.
In a more traditional or transitional space, the Lumière announces "This room has been updated," and eradicates any stale or stuffy feeling.
