One of the first design lessons Jeffers gives his clients is that color doesn't always mean vivid, splashy hues. "It's really about creating new, unexpected pairings," he says. "We just completed a stunning modern penthouse in a palette of grays and creams."

Gray trim highlights the molding in the dining room and provides a neutral complement to the bolder orange tones in the upholstery, decor and wall treatments. "I absolutely love the dining room," Jeffers says. "It has a handsome, quirky look, with a gallery wall of portrait paintings."
