Storage around doorways makes the feeling cozy and utilizes the space.
Use underneath upper kitchen cabinets. Corbels add unique and interesting detail beneath a row of cabinets. Most corbels can be painted or stained to complement your cabinetry. (May also be added to doorframes between rooms or on cabinets to hold up the counter.) Cute herb plants as well.
I like the beadboard and the hinges/knobs on the pie safe.
