Houzz interview: Kim’s colorful daisy cottage

Kimberly McCole made her dreams come true when she purchased a charming 1920s cottage in Florida and moved there with her family. Since the move, three and a half years ago, Kim's daisy cottage has turned into one of the most colorful, charming and inviting cottages I have ever seen.

Combining her love for colors, unique vintage goods and shop thrifting, Kim was able not just to create a warm and beautiful home for her family, but also to inspire thousands of readers as well as many magazines that fell in love with her lovely daisy cottage.

Visiting Kim's blog "dear daisy cottage" is also a special experience. While you listen to music selected by Kim, you can browse throgh many magnificent photos she is constantly taking and read her daily stories about her house, her DIY projects, her shop thrifting and of course about her cute beloved dog: Miss Maggie.
It's never boring in the daisy cottage. Kim's cozy rooms keep changing as she keeps adding new treasures she found in yard sales and thrift shops and rotating her old ones. It's my great pleasure to introduce you to kim and her dear daisy cottage.

Please tell us about your “first meeting” with your house to be
It was pretty much love at first sight! From the moment I stepped on the front porch, I dared to dream that this house could become our home - a dream of mine that I’ve pretty much always had! As we sat on the porch swing, waiting for the realtor to arrive to show us the house, my mind was already spinning with what all I would do to make her ours.

Your favorite style and colors
I’ve always been a “cottage girl” at heart and love cottage style. While I enjoy many styles and gain inspiration from them, cottage style is what makes my heart skip a beat.
My favorite colors are red and yellow! No surprise there, right? ;-) They lift my spirits and I feel energized when surrounded by them. I admit, however, that I’ve really never met a color that I didn’t like! There are so many to use and enjoy!

A spot in your house that makes you very happy/proud
I can honestly say that every room in Daisy Cottage makes me happy but if I had to pick the spot that makes me the most happy and proud then that would be my office. It is there that I write my blog and share with my readers who are also my dear friends.

Your precious accessory/furniture/art
Oh gosh, this is a hard one! I really love all of my things, whether it is a thrift store item, an antique piece that my husband and I bought for a special occasion, or a handmade treasure! Of course those things given to me from family and friends – including my readers – are much loved and cherished! I am also very proud of my sister’s art and have several of her paintings proudly displayed in our home, including the one above our fireplace.

Your next house project
We are enjoying our new front garden and hope to tackle our back and side yard areas soon. We also want to build a TV cabinet for the “granny room”. I am thinking about painting our center hall and stairway in another shade of green soon. Oh, and one day we would love to replace our kitchen countertops and put in a farmhouse sink And of course there will always be something that I will want to spray paint in a fun color! ;-)

5 things that houzz readers need to know about your blog
1. It is my heart.
2. It is about our home, joyful little things, moments, and of course- Maggie, our dappled dachshund.
3. My readers mean the world to me.
4. They are always welcome at Daisy Cottage.
5. I hope that my blog inspires them to create their own
home-sweet-home; encourages them to embrace and decorate with their favorite colors; and most of all to have fun and be true to their spirit.

Kim, thank you for sharing your lovely daisy cottage with us!

Last but not least: as a houzz friend, you get to choose a giveaway gift to one of the lucky readers that will share their thoughts about your house and interview.
As my readers know, I am an avid thrift store and yard sale shopper, but I also LOVE Anthropologie! Every once in a while I treat myself to something fun from there.
I pick Anthropologie’s LULEA APRON for my giveaway choice! I love the colors!

For your chance to win Anthropologie’s LULEA APRON, selected by Kimberly McCole, comment on this interview by Sunday, June 21 at 5pm EST.

tgr101 I visit Daisy Cottage a lot to see what's going on there and the little touches I can borrow for my own house, which is really NOT very cottage-y -- but a girl can dream, can't she? Love the colors and Kim has a particular talent capturing just the perfect light for the mood.

valentina I truly feel welcomed every time I visit Kim at her blog: the ice cold lemonade waiting and Maggie coming over for a snuggly Hi. Kim is so giving and wonderful: it's her internal Beauty that just spills over into her surroundings. And even from across the globe one can be comforted by it. Thanks Kim, for providing me with a soft spot to land once in a while.

bassicliving Kim is like a daily dose of sunshine. I've been following her at Daisy Cottage for a long time and her warmth and sincerity never cease to bring light and warmth. Her love for all things vintage and treasured is something we share in common. But more importantly, her fantastic eye for integrating bright colors into a chic decor design is what continually endears her to me! (That and her cute little Miss Maggie!) All hats off to Kim and her lovely Daisy Cottage!

victoria_d What a beautiful and inspiring place you have, I love it!
Do you mind sharing the wine bar info? It is gorgeous! Did you paint it?
I also like your blog, great music and beautiful photos. Heading there to read more...

Dear Daisy Cottage THANK YOU so much Valentina, annelies, dionne and victoria_d!

Victoria, yes I painted the wine bar red - it was a pretty creamy white before but I wanted it to have the punch of red. I left the drawers as they were though. :-)

karen74 Wow- I'm in love!
It's amazing that you found all these treasures in thrift shops!
I would be happy to buy great things in yard sales and thrift shops but I don't think that I have a good eye as you have...
Any good tip how to even start looking?...

aladdintn I remember when Kim bought Daisy Cottage! I am an old "friend" (DownSouth) from the GI Board. I have always loved her sense of style and was so excited when she made the decision to purchase this. Great and amazing things here!

karensc0sm0s Kim is a dear, sincere, big hearted person. Her blog was the first I came across when we bought our 1912 cottage and I was inspired to re-side it in a soft yellow because of Kim's example and belief in being true to yourself. I won my first giveaway on at Kim's blog and am continually inspired by the fellowship she has generated. This Houzz is a very interesting site and I am realy glad she sent her blog followers like me over here.

Take care
