Houzz Contributor. I started drawing as a child, from the time I could pick up a pen. My father and mother encouraged my interest in art, for which I am eternally grateful. My father, a physician and WWII veteran (flight navigator in Europe) was also a painter who was passionate about his art. He and my mom were also great fans of the work of New Yorker cartoonist James Thurber, so I grew up surrounded by his books and art. My Dad showed me the work of classical artists and told me never to give up and never to compromise my vision.
As a sophomore in college (Theater Arts, University of Southern California) I had an "aha" moment, when I realized I didn't want to just be an actress. I opened the school newspaper and saw a student's cartoon strip. I thought, "I can do that." I drew up a...

Half the fun is obsessing over the details.
Maybe I should stay off this website, it is too easy to get sidetracked with all the great photos and ideas..
The pets and the moleskine is just like here at me... I guess also the white, the shoes... Damn! I guess im a bit too much ;)
And believe me, in my field, designing the two most complex and costly rooms in the
house - kitchen and bath - there are enough details to keep me awake at night. But
I LOVE IT! There's nothing else I would rather do. Only other creatives can and do

Definitely true about the shoes, and that goes for pants and skirts also (how may pairs of black pants do I need?). I also have an obsession with tabletop--how many sets of dishes do I need? I now have 7--do I really need that perfect 8th one? Not all interior designers are DIY--I'm definitely not, and would never have client jobs completed if I were (too many crafts involved, and I'm talkin' electricians, plumbers, painters, etc.).
"Bad Boys II" (the reason I can watch this movie again and again)? There are many others,
of course. What are your favorites?
What about another obsession? This one has to do with going to fancy restaurants and hotels and disecting the design, the quality of the workmanship, what I would have done, etc. Also, looking at very expensive homes in magazines and in person and cringing inside at some of the glaring mistakes, such as putting a 48" Viking range and hood right next to a wall, so there's no countertop space to the right of the range. Don't let me get started...
By the way what exactly is the eggshell finish? I've seen it mentioned a few times, we don't have it here.
Out of Africa, Karen Blixen's house, the club, the tent on Safari, all gorgeous.
Chocolat, the patisserie, the church and Johnny Depp's boat.
It's Complicated, the bakery and the house
