Houzz is the new way to design your home.
Could we use drift wood for the stair case to the second floor?
The half-log makes a nice mantel, planed along its top surface.
Use of peeled logs, simple construction, lots of light, great porches, won't stick out in the landscape
railings of cedar branches
I like the craftsman furniture. I grew up three blocks from the Stickley factory, and love the heavy, embracing style of the chairs and cabinets for a cottage.
The corbels on the rafters are an easy way to keep the ends looking as if they stop, rather than end.
I like the deck extending beyond the roof line, for a more flexible way to use the space.
Fabulous use of space - drawers, nooks and great spaces for napping or for children to cozy up into.
LOVE the use of the cedar trunks. I'd use smaller ones at our place, to scale down and lighten up the look.
This could be a nice starting point for a way to connect the main cottage to the annex.
Perfect color scheme. human scale, draws you in, to see what's around the corner. Lots of semi-private spaces, good for having guests.
Great use of colors. I like the small patios outside the doorways. Looks expensive...
Small details (bracing in portico roof, kicked out and curved roof edges, make a simple design into an elegant one.
fun bunks with little hideaway behind. Kids would like these a lot I think.
I really love this space. It's original looking, and hangs together beautifully, despite the range of "found" bits and pieces. Very sophisticated, even thought it appears simple.
use of peeled logs, sacle
detailing on the posts that frame the window seat.
Love the use of tree trunks to blend furnishings with structural elements in the room!
I like the use of the scatter rug as a wall hanging. I also like the darker ceilings, which make the room cozier and reduce the effect of being in a tall box.
Love the treatment at the ends of the ridge rafters.
lots of good stuff here: lights on porch, bracing and railing treatments, terne roof and B&B siding
nice open stairs, good use of corner space, with the cabinet
Surprisingly, I like the lath framing in this room, because of the molding on top and the low chair rail squares
exterior detail on stairs is very nice
design of railings would look good on our place
I like the small eyebrow over the window. Depending upon which direction it faces, it will provide shade, as well as keeping rain and snow away from the window.
A lighter version of the aqua on the walls, and a pinker version of the color accents is what I imagine.
