Conquering the Corner Fireplace
How to Decorate a Living Space When the Focal Point Is In the Corner

Many believe the fireplace should be the focal point of a room and try to centralize their furniture to accommodate this belief. Other family members may believe the television should be the focal point. My advice: Don't allow your room to boss you around. Take charge in designing your space the way you want to live in it.
Lately, the most common design dilemma I'm approached with involves corner fireplaces. When a homeowner has this concern and lives in a subdivision, you can bet that others in the neighborhood have the same question. So today I offer decorating inspiration for decorating around your corner fireplace, with or without a TV. Each room represents a different design style and provides fresh ideas for tackling your problem. Take courage homeowners, and be empowered once again to decorate a home you all love.

This corner beauty boasts an elevated hearth and stunning quatrefoil mirror. What I love most about this design is how the media center and fireplace, both prominent design elements, coexist harmoniously on the same elevation.
Based on the furniture placement alone, the fireplace appears to be ignored. With the introduction of artwork and elaborate moldings, it becomes relevant once again.
In the midst of eye-catching color, the fireplace anchors the room, providing a focal point for this cozy craftsman.
It is a great idea to incorporate the corner fireplace into built-ins for a cohesive, continuous look. Accent lighting above the fireplace sets the stage for a masterpiece.
An intimate conversation area trumps TV-watching and the corner fireplace, yet the swiveled accent chairs can change the room's focal point in an instant.
In a room with multiple focal points, a monochromatic palette is essential for keeping the room from feeling too busy. If your eyes aren't resting on the flat screen television, they are beholding the beauty of the painting over the fireplace.
With or without a corner fireplace as a guide, arranging a furniture plan on the diagonal is an art form. Symmetry is the key to mastering this look. How many furniture pairs do you count in this room?
Flanked by dual bookcases, this corner fireplace vies for attention with a flat-screen television. But because it sits on a pedestal and upholds a beautiful mirrored panel, it’s a winner each time.

This is my problem as well, a true corner fireplace, not a background of flat wall. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Same here. No wall to the left (1 ft, then sliding glass doors), long wall to the right, but its the dining room.
