Give it the spotlight. Choose a transparent sink with a touch of color (consider a shade that complements the bathroom’s color scheme, such as this orange), and then position your overhead lighting so it bounces off the sink bowl. You won’t be able to take your eyes of the glow.

Go for the gold. Have you chosen a contemporary silver-toned vanity? Consider topping it with a gold sink. This mix of metallic is nothing less than sophisticated chic.

Get unique with silver. Silver is obviously a common sink color. If you love the look but want something with more personality, look for one in an interesting shape. Like the one in the previous photo, it stands out when you complement it with gold accents throughout the bath.

Consider linear layers. If you have a contemporary vanity with square corners, especially one like this example with the silver layer between the cabinet and countertop, top it with a square sink in the same style. It will drive the scheme home and complete the look. Silver or porcelain sinks can also achieve that modern look (with the right shape), but glass is a bit more unexpected.

Match the accessories. Have patterned glass pendant lights? Get a custom sink done in with the same look.

Think natural. Contemporary bathrooms can easily feel cold when not accessorized properly. To add warmth, ground the space with a sink created from natural materials such as stone. Set it on top of a wooden vanity to secure the natural appeal.

Get skinny with it. When space is tight, the last thing you want is a bulky vanity. This sleek Waterplane sink by Alape does just the trick: It’s functional, stylish and allows the space to breathe.

Be daring with red. You can’t go wrong with a black-and-white bathroom; they’re always a classic. However, if you want to have a little fun, try spicing it up with a hint of red through the sink. Just that one touch will give the bathroom a more definitive edge.

Reflect the vanity’s style. Choose a sink finish that pulls in an element of the vanity to create a connection between the two. This chiseled granite sink feels similar to the style of the vanity’s legs.

Go for glass. … especially if glass and mirrors are already a fundamental concept throughout your bathroom. You may think it’s overkill, but complementing glass and mirrors with an additional glass sink is particularly chic and crisp.

Yellow it up. Modernize a console-turned-vanity (a great idea in itself!) with a playful yellow sink. Choose a sink in a warmer shade of yellow so it feels more like sunshine than highlighter, then help it sing with complementary patterned floor tiles and a backsplash.

Enhance the bathroom’s color story. If your bathroom is feeling a bit monotone, consider a patterned sink that mixes the bathroom’s colors with other shades. It will give the room a focal point.

Get edgy. Break up a circular or geometric theme with an asymmetrical sink, and vice versa. Remember: Too much of one thing can result in a design that feels flat.
