The Holidays Are Coming...Where Will Everyone Sleep?

In my area the trees are all dressed in bright hues of red, orange and yellow. The air is fresh, crisp and invigorating. With Halloween only two weeks away...it can only mean one thing. Thanksgiving and the holidays are surely almost upon us.

Before long, family and friends will be arriving with luggage in hand. Our normally comfortable, spacious abodes will suddenly begin to feel a little cramped. The real question seems to always be...where will everyone sleep? I've been amazed at all the ingenious bedroom designs houzz professionals and contributors have created for solving the need for overflow sleeping.
When sister comes for a visit bringing her little ones, you'll be ready with this great bedroom design. It's pretty amazing that this layout will comfortably sleep 4 children or adults all along one wall. Note the steps that provide access to the two top beds are built right into the center.
Don't have a long wall? This design would work well for rooms without a long wall. There's no shared access to the top beds in this layout...each has its own ladder. Did you notice the bedding was exactly the same? Looks very different with white framed beds as opposed to blue.
Did you ever realize there were so many different ways to design sleeping quarters to accommodate larger groups. These beds look a good bit larger than the normal single width you usually see in most bunk bed designs. I love that they appear to be built right into the room.
Yet, another delightful bunk bed design perfect for rooms where a corner design is needed. This one even has built-in storage where guest can tuck away their personal belongings.
If you have attic space you've been itching to convert into usable space, this design would be perfect. The beds fit right up under the slope of the eves and they even have curtains to give each guest some privacy come evening time.
If you don't have attic space or a spare bedroom perfect for converting into multiple sleeping quarters, consider the terrace level...or even the playroom. Here's a design that is so delightful it would look right at home in most playrooms.
Here's another view showing the interior and curtains for privacy. Your guests might even dream they are characters in a wonderful old mystery novel, traveling the rails via the Orient Express.
If you live in where it's warm this time of year, consider converting a screened in porch into a sleeping porch for the holidays. Your guests will be lulled to sleep each night listening to the sounds of nature. This second story porch must feel like sleeping in a tree house.
This porch is designed to sleep four or more comfortably. Ahhh, just imagine waking up to beautiful lake views each morning.
Here's a simple, sweet design for extra sleeping arrangements. Wouldn't this be an adorable design for grandchildren?
If rustic is more your cup of tea, this design would be great for a log home, cabins or ski lodges...really any casual interior.
No room for bunk beds? A sneaky way to create additional sleeping quarters is with a trundle bed design. Put it on rollers and just roll it out when needed. With a dust ruffle/bed skirt in place, you can make it completely disappear when not in use.

When the holidays come around, do you have a great system for accommodating extra friends and family?

Sheila Schmitz It would be so fun to have a slumber party on one of those sleeping porches. I especially love the one where everyone has his own reading light(bulb).

deej I love these built-in bunk ideas for the cottage. Seems like such a budget-conscious way to create sleeping quarters. The kids would love it!

Peter Medvin Another solution for holiday guests - especially for those with limited space - is Zoom-Room, the electronic, remote controlled, retractable bed. Check it out at www.Zoom-Room.com.

kimb What a timely post. We have been trying to figure out what to do with all the company coming for Christmas. We already have a double bunk bed in one of our bedrooms and a trundle bed under another bed...still not enough space. I'm thinking of making the dining room into a temporary bedroom. I'm not sure anyone will want to stay in there though.

Between Naps on the Porch Kimb....maybe you can temporarily hang some long curtains or sheets across the opening into the room...for a little privacy.
