This was a 1950’s ranch that was transformed into a mid-century modern by Nick Noyes of San Francisco. It was extensively rebuilt and expanded in 2001 to embrace the outdoor lifestyle. The ceilings have been raised to peak at 12 feet with walls of glass and clerestory windows over the french doors. It has a southern exposure and is infused with light. Designed with a great room at the center, the three bedroom suites are oriented to provide privacy and separation. It also has a home office. We bought the house 3 years ago and added central air, a large window in the office, and decorated it with a nod to the organic, natural beauty of Santa Barbara. We then hired JGS landscape architecture to turn our backyard into yet another living space with outdoor shower, fire pit, and cedar hot tub. That project can be viewed under “Santa Barbara Modern Ranch” or Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture. At just under 2000 square feet it lives large and is the perfect place to relax and entertain as it effortlessly blends indoor-outdoor spaces.
