Through the Garden Gate (5 comments)
I love the way this traditional white gate offers a window into the garden. Who could resist a peek?

A dusty landscape, with low-lying plants and a pretty stone path, is perfectly complemented by this creative use of wagon wheels.

Stone walls and a wildly flowering arch promise a garden that's full of romance and sweetness.

A simple and sleek gate is the perfect introduction to this walk through green.

This wire-and-wood gate is nearly hidden by bushes. The way it blends into the background makes the garden first priority - but it's practical, too, keeping small animals at bay.

Aged columns add gentle formality to this orderly space.

Architectural salvage warehouses are a great place to look for cool iron gates like this one - a fantastic complement to a heavy brick arch.

I love the way this wooden door fits snugly between the bushes, and the way low-slung, neatly trimmed shrubbery frames the walk.

This modern door is the best of all worlds. It offers a peek through into the garden, while maintaining privacy.

Similar to the first photo in this ideabook, this round window is like a giant peephole, offering a glimpse into a gorgeous, flowering garden.

Kit, I love these ideas! We found an old, iron rod, gate at a garage sale and put it in to our court yard. It is now the focal point of this area, I receive compliments on it ALL THE TIME!
What great ideas and suggestions.... and if you are creative, something that should not be that epensive!

That sounds like a great find!
We have a couple of really great architectural salvage places here in Baltimore. I spent some time wandering around one this morning - they have so many cool things that could make great gates with just a little tweaking and cleaning up.
We actually bought an old door with glass panes and we're using it as a gate of sorts between our front porch and side yard. It's perfect - you can still see the garden when you sit on the porch, but our back/sideyard is totally enclosed.

That's so cool, Becky - kind of surreal and Tim Burtonish. I love that set of photos!
