Principles of Design
Symmetrical Balance. The room looks the same on both sides if you were to split it down the middle.
Asymmetrical. If you were to split this photo in half, it would not be symmetrical, but the room appears to be balanced.
Asymmetrical. The room appears balanced, but there is a sofa and mounted picture on one side and two chairs and a window on the other.
The repetitive wall beams create rhythm and draw your eye down the hallway.
There is rhythm with the repeated circles on the banisters.
Rhythm. The colors create rhythm and move your eye across the wall.
Proportion. The sink creates an unbalanced proportion, but is the focal point of the bathroom.
The elongated corner window creates emphasis on the room.
This is an example of unity because of the colors bringing the bedroom and the bathroom together. It brings a relaxing ambiance to the rooms.
This is scale. The bed is too large for the room and makes it look very small.
This is variety. The designer used a variety of colors and textures to create an open space.
