This sunken tub is lined up perfectly at the same level as an exterior pool of water. The window opens all the way so it looks like a single pool. This would be so peaceful and is absolutely lovely.

If sinking down in hot water up to your chin is for you, then a soaking tub might be just the thing. You can get a beautiful one like this made from wood ...

The same tub looks great with a dark interior color and placed in this rustic bathroom. I think this would be the perfect look for a modern house in the country.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is a granite bathtub. These can weigh more than 2,000 pounds. With the surface polished on the inside and hand chiseled on the outside, they give a tactile experience unlike any other material.

Concrete is one more material to consider for a modern bathtub. Since it can be poured and molded into any shape, the possibilities are endless.

I bet you thought I was going to leave out clawfoot tubs entirely, but this beauty has a contemporary flair with its pretty chrome feet. Well you'll have to pardon me, but my tub has just about filled. Time to pour myself a glass of bubbly and enjoy bathtub bliss! Next: More bath design ideas Browse more bathtub photos
Vanessa -- Glad you found a favorite. It's the infinity tub with turquoise tile for me.
marly -- I'm with you! I understand the turquoise tile was a custom blend of colors. Absolutely stunning.
To those of you who just loved what you saw and are having "bath envy" -- I'm right there with you. Can hardly wait until I can remodel and create my own dream bath!
Regarding the safety issues: good points. Some of these photos only show the tub though, not what is right around it, so I don't think I'd be calling any of them "death traps". Not enough info here. I tell you what I would like to see though, and that is safety features that don't make the entire bathroom positively bristle with steel bars. UGLY!! Even if it is safe. I'd love to see a well designed bathroom that has the places to hold on so beautifully integrated that it doesn't ever occur to the viewer that here is something that has nothing to do with the aesthetics, but was slapped on top of it with no thought to the look. I'm not saying safety isn't important -- sure is -- but am saying that a safe environment can be created that doesn't look like it belongs in a hospital.
There are no spas in the ideabook because it is specifically about bathtubs. If you couldn't take a bubble bath in it, it didn't go into this ideabook. :0) I try not to do ideabooks that need 47 photos because I think most people skip over those, so I keep the focus pretty tight. I'll see if I can come up with an interesting one on spas for those of you who feel the bath experience is just not complete without jets.
It will come into its own when the snows come.
tambir, it would be very interesting to see what you will come up with.

mauryno -- Oh yes. That's the downside of all this cool stuff. Very hard to decide which way to go. I think that's a big part of why I'm a designer. Instead of having to do my own rooms over and over, I get to design room after room for my clients instead. I don't get to keep those rooms for myself, but at least I get the fun of pulling the whole design together. Have fun!
As data1001 already mentioned: "...Half of these, while beautiful, look like they'd be extremely uncomfortable to actually bathe in. Esthetics should not be a substitute for function...."
When I design a bathroom, I always try to achieve the "splits" between functional and beautiful which is sometimes pretty hard to accomplish. In my opinion are the following baths absolutely impractical designed. How do you want to keep them clean? After relaxing for one hour in such a tub, you need another hour to clean the bath thereafter. This makes no sense at all to me. Only people who can afford a maid should build such a bathroom !
- bathroom 1
- bathroom 2
- Strip
- Pool House & Wine Cellar
If I would go with a free standing bathtub then only with a design like this. You can easily go around and keep it clean. Bathtub African Skin - Croco
