| The narrow space made installing upper cabinetry almost impossible. Limited open shelving keeps the room open and allows most items to be stored in drawers or the nearby pantry. Alper focused the redesign on new appliance placement, making sure that there was plenty of room between the primary kitchen work area and the entrance to the rest of the house. | Near the range, simple painted shelves held up with iron brackets visually tie into the honed black granite countertops. A magnetic knife rack saves drawer space and keeps the best knives right at hand. |
@seevolt: we have a high counter between the dining room and the kitchen counter and floating cabinets above the counters. It hides mess on the kitchen counter while leaving the kitchen fairly open. Now that we are done I go back and forth about the upper cabinets. When I am getting things in and out of them they are super convenient. When I am sitting in the dining room I think that perhaps a little more open would have been better.
