Shawn Black It is absolutely amazing the wide selection of colors and glass options for these doors. Every color you can imagine is pretty much available by powder coating them. All these photos are very contemporary but these doors go very well in traditional style home with the right glass and color selections. Great Article!

thundermounts I love seeing how the use of garage doors can change the space by opening it up to the outside. I beleive that Custom homes in the future will develope into having your Auto inside the house. Thunder Mounts are the Best looking mount solution for these types of installations.

sintpeter I want a roll-up, but am not sure about the energy efficiency aspects. Most of the home garage doors featured look like homes in the West. Unless the glass is double-faced and the perimeter seals are airtight. Maybe here in the Mid-Atlantic there is a Co. that can help. Unless I missed it in the articles, no mention of how E/E they are.

Moe Anderson I really like the glass garage. I have not seen one in person before, but I really like the pictures that I see online. My garage is broken right now. I think that it might be broken springs. I really need to get a garage door repair done. Maybe I will move into a home that has a glass garage door. It might be a huge pain to clean it though.

Beth Surdut One sales rep for three different companies tells me that the difference between tempered non-insulated and tempered insulated glass is minimal when used in a converted garage-to-studio space because the housing/framework is never as tight as regular windows. The cost difference is substantial. Other than the obvious reaction that insulated is better, has anyone here found any stats?

If you have a detached garage, live in a mild climate, and don't use the garage for anything other than to park your car, you may want to consider a non-insulated garage door. But if your garage is attached to your house or you use it as a workshop or hobby space you definitely want to consider an insulated garage door for several reasons. The construction of the door is more durable; it will improve the comfort of the garage and the living spaces next to it year-round in both warm and cool weather; and it is quieter. There are two types of insertion - polyurethane foam and polystyrene. Polyurethane foam is injected between the interior and exterior layers of the door and expands to fill the cavity so there are no gaps. It has a higher R-value.
