Guest Picks: A Sofa Bed for Every Style

austennut Sleeper sofas can help increase the versatility of a space. Unfortunately, too many of them are rather uncomfortable (that bar in the middle is awful!). We have a Crate & Barrel sofa bed that is very comfortable to sit on in its sofa form. But when the sleeper part comes out it's so uncomfortable that we have to put an air mattress on top of it to make it remotely welcoming for guests.

Some of these Scandinavian designs look as though they would make comfortable beds (like the Knap sofa bed in picture #5). But it seems pretty uncomfortable to curl up in with a book. Are there any recommendations of couches that are comfortable to sit in and relax, as well as to turn in to a bed that's not embarrassing to have guests sleep in?

kmvehrs We have a Comfort Sleeper from Room and Board. It's a little more expensive than their other style of sofa sleeper, but it is shockingly nice to sleep on. It is our only guest bed, and we get lots of compliments.

justkiki The sleeper sofas made by American Leather are amazing. They don't just come in leather either. The mattress is temper-pedic and there is no bar.

Alfred Spitzer_Jr You left out Simplicity sofas made in North Carolina(simplicitysofas.com). They have multiple styles to choose as well as a huge selection of fabrics and slip covers. It is a ready to assemble couch with a great manufactures warranty and customer service. I am buying my sleeper here. They also have various mattress toppers available. Made in the USA.

Brenda Greer Just found Zoom-Room on Houzz. Exceptional style Murphy Beds! They are out of Miami. Love their looks and a remote and adjustable comfort levels, my kind of Murphy Bed.

einportlandor A couple of years ago I rented an apartment in Paris for a week (sigh). There was a sofa bed unlike any I'd ever seen and would love to find one here. It was a regular, comfortable, sleek sofa by day (and it was red!). At bed time, the sofa arms folded down and a lower section pulled out from the bottom, resulting in two quality twin beds . . . kind of a hybrid sofa bed/day bed. Never seen another one like it but I'd love to fine one. Any ideas?

InterDesign Studio Just used this Euro-style sofa bed for a client. Room & Board "Encore". Actually better price than similar one from a competitor and seems a better quality. The back is in 3 sections and had 3 settings - upright, lounge, down flat for sleeping.

lizziek My daughter lives in a small 2 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn and got an IKEA leather sofa bed for the second bedroom. It is the most comfortable sofa bed I've ever slept on. It has wooden slates and a nice thick mattress. I think she paid around a $1,000 for it. We are thinking of getting one for our guest/media room.

Wedo Simple Shopping Great selection of sofa beds. I'm glad to see the large range of designs and styles available in the US, as in the UK sofa beds have become really popular. They have progressed massively from the uncomfortable, difficult, ancient designs which were seen everywhere.

Thanks to the different types you can get such as clic clac sofas and pullout sofa beds they are even more functional and easy to use as well. It is great to be able to choose a stylish, contemporary sofa bed which requires only minimal effort to turn into a bed!
