Porcelain tile lets you get the stone look without having to worry about applying sealer. (It is still a good idea to seal the grout, though, to prevent staining.) This glazed tile has shade variation designed to look like travertine. A subtle pattern is created with 18"x18" and 2"x2" accent tiles.
"color body" tile features a similar tone to the glaze through the entire thickness of the tile, hiding any chips or nicks. The body of the tile will not exactly match the glaze, however.
"through body" tile is unglazed and features the same color and texture through the entire thickness of the tile. Not only will chips not look so obvious, but usually this tile can be finished on the edge, like a natural stone can, by the installer - saving you money on bullnose!
Tile is great for below-grade floor installation, where moisture can be an issue, but they can also be slick or chilly. They don't give at all, which is durable, but tough on dropped dishes and old knees. There are some in-between part vinyl part tile products like duraceramic to consider.
