Kitchen of the Week: An Entryway Kitchen Opens Up
More square footage and seamless transitions help a historical pied-à-terre's kitchen blend in beautifully
Many apartments have a kitchen, living and dining area combined in limited square footage, which means the spaces have to make sense together. The kitchen in this Boston pied-à-terre sits right inside the main entrance and foyer, so the clients wanted it to create a warm welcome. Interior designer Emily Pinney integrated extra square footage for more storage and workability while keeping the rest of the kitchen simple, focusing on high-end materials and clean lines.

The upper cabinets go all the way to the ceiling, to make use of every available inch. Keeping all the cabinetry white prevents it from feeling heavy. Pinney purposely avoided decorative lighting, sticking with recessed and undercabinet options for a clean aesthetic.
Calacatta marble countertops match the mosaic backsplash, and stainless steel appliances work well with the faucet finish and drawer pulls. Repeating the finishes eased the transition between the kitchen and the rest of the home.
