Removing the many walls in the basement, raising the ceiling and opening the staircase dramatically changed the room's relationship to the outdoors. It's a walk-out basement — the house sits on a slope — and the windows let in plenty of light.
"Most people say that it doesn't feel remotely like a basement when you're down there, because now there's so much natural light streaming in," says Davis.

Sconces from Schoolhouse Electric continue the industrial undertone in the bathroom. Davis had locally salvaged towel hooks mounted on reclaimed fir for warmth.
