Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

Harlequin patterns originated on the Italian stage. Clown-like servants and jesters were marked by their brightly-colored diamond-pattern getups.
Since then, harlequin has come a long way, and is always a beautiful classic choice for flooring. Remember how breathtaking the foyer was at the end of "The Money Pit"? That image has been stuck in my design brain ever since. By the way, if you haven't seen "The Money Pit" in awhile, I highly recommend a re-screening. It is absolutely hilarious, especially that mousetrap-effect scene where everything comes apart like dominoes. Also, who could forget Tom Hanks wrapped like an burrito in a rug, stuck in a hole in the floor and hanging down into the living room below?
This room reminds me of the Alice In Wonderland "Don't Come Around Here No More" Tom Petty video - it's a trippy pop room, with the harlequin straightened out into straight checkerboard.
