Problem/Solution Set-Ups
Vaulted ceilings can be uncomfortable and difficult to integrate into a space plan. Acoustics are typically wretched, lighting is a challenge, and the room's volume are often over-scaled relative to the floor space creating a "bottom of a box" feeling. What's more, a lack of balance/symmetry in everything from traffic patterns, to doors, windows and chimneys can through off hope of any practical seating arrangement. All that said, this library wall with ladder is a clever bit of placement to bring semi-accessible storage and a focal point to the room. The paneled ceiling helps keeps a "lid on" the space -- that's quite cozy. I would have specified the same material for the floor to unify the space further. You'd also want a large area rug on the seating to manage sound.
