Kids' Spaces: From Nursery to Toddler's Room
13 Fun Design Ideas to Consider While You're Moving Out the Crib
Updating your child’s room from baby to toddler generally means switching out the crib for a bed, but while you’re making that transition, consider adding a fresh take to other elements of your toddler’s room as well. Now that your child is more aware of his surroundings, you can start setting the tone for a room he can grow and evolve in. Take a peek at some of these considerations to help you create a playful and comforting space that you’ll enjoy just as much as your little one.
Paint designs onto the walls. Painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to give a room a fresh new look; do so in your toddler’s room by painting a fun design, such as this tree. It adds a playful spark that can easily and affordably be changed down the road if your toddler so desires.
Add charm with a vintage bed. If you feel like your toddler’s room could use a little eclectic style punch, search for a bed with that antique look. It will give the room that cozy, lived in feel, plus the smaller beds take up less space.
Consider upgrading the closet. Your toddler is only just beginning to amass a plethora of material goodies, so even if you get that well-made wardrobe, you’ll also want ample closet space. If a full closet upgrade isn’t part of the budget, at least go in with some organizers to set the stage for a categorized closet from here on out.
Scout a mini work table. Your toddler’s creativity is just beginning to spark; let him exercise it with a work table fit just for him. Look for tables that are shorter in height and have ample storage for materials.
Bring in a little bench. Whether your toddler wants to populate the bench with dolls, trucks, clothes or what have you, an antique bench with a cushion upholstered in playful fabric adds a youthful charm to the space. It’s also the perfect spot for your toddler to learn how to tie his shoes.
Choose classic patterns instead of trendy, kid-centric ones. Your little guy is going to start growing fast; choose classic patterns, like stripes or leaf motifs, which will evolve with him instead of eventually feeling too juvenile. You’ll appreciate both money and time saved in the long run.
Add eclectic artwork. You can’t go wrong with funky artwork that is also educational. This clever alphabet display brings color, visual interest and a vintage feel to the room.
Here’s another fun way to display the alphabet. This one is a little more modernized, but just as colorful and playful.
Consider built-in storage. If you have the space, you may want to splurge with additional built-in storage. With all of your toddler’s toys, books, clothes and other items, you can truly never have enough storage.
Include a desk. Like the work table, a desk will give your toddler a space to work on drawings or other activities.
