You are headed to a lovely dinner or have recently stayed over at a friend's place — what do you get them to thank them for their hospitality? I've always liked to give unique gifts to my hostesses. Check out my 20 favorites, from the simple treats to the major splurges, here. — Maria Fe from Layers of Meaning
I love to keep flowers throughout my home all year round, and these vases are perfect for a small flower arrangement. Just make sure you include the flowers when you give your hostess her gift!
One of my favorite scents is a combination of fresh eucalyptus and mint. Any hostess will love this soft and silky organic foaming soap. The bottle is perfect for a powder room or kitchen sink.
I've recently gotten into gardening myself and these wire wrapped markers would be the perfect way to bring some fun into my garden. Whether your hostess has an indoor or outdoor garden, the markers will help her identify all the herbs and spices quickly.
If your hostess is a bit more crafty, then these needlepoint kits are perfect for her! Easy-to-follow color charts are included. This is a project I would love to try and the end product is priceless.
I would personally use this porcelain lace cup as a jewelry dish. Whether your hostess uses it in the kitchen or in her bedroom, the delicate lace detail makes this the perfect chic gift.
I'm loving the indigo color of this handmade leather journal. Perfect for jotting down daily reminders. I would buy several as a hostess gift. They would look perfect in a bookshelf too.
Not sure if your hostess has a green thumb? This terrarium kit is perfect for anyone with no gardening skills. The kit includes a lovely orb, easy-to-care-for succulents and stones, as well as design and care instructions. I think even I could become a master gardener!
How cute and whimsical is this facial tissue dispenser? This handcrafted wooden whale will surely add charm to any powder room or kids bathroom. (Maybe I'll even order an extra one for my son's bathroom.)
I love these shakers. Made of white smooth porcelain, they feature rubber stoppers at the bottom. I would personally keep these on my table all the time; they are the perfect little tabletop accessory.
Destined to become a classic, this elegant monogrammed tray provides beauty and function. I wish I had discovered this tray last year, as it would've been a perfect gift for the ladies that hosted my baby shower.
A macaron a day? Don't mind if I do. This is a limited edition 8 x 10 print from an original watercolor and ink illustration, and would be ideal for any hostess with a sweet tooth.
I love the retro feel with a modern twist of this 4 piece over-sized server set. Perfect for serving baked dishes and salads. Your hostess will love it!
This tree stump set is intended to be used as place card holder, but I would use it as a photograph holder instead. You can even take some pictures of you and hostess and include them in your gift — genius!
This Russian doll lavender sachet is filled with the best dried French lavender and is small enough to tuck away in a lingerie drawer or hang from a door closet. Your hostess will love the fresh and floral smell of her clothes.
Your hostess — or you — can have a piece of the design world. This mug was originally created for interior designer Erin Gates. In my opinion, your morning has just become instantly chic!
samanthastevens I always prefer to buy the hostess a small gift rather than flowers. I would gladly receive any of these. The journal is my favourite. It would have to be a generous guest to buy a $160 needlepoint kit.
Denise Vilim Lots of unique, thoughtful and really nice gifts here. The only one I don't get is the $160 porcelain coyote skull. With gold teeth. ???. I really love the vases and dinnerware by Aedriel Originals. I have a new favorite to add to my Etsy profile. And that whale kleenex box...too cool!
Thanks for all the great ideas!
demich Despite all of these ideas being lovely for the right person, as a hostess, I do not want to receive anything that clutters. I much prefer the gifts that can be "used up." The hand soap--wonderful; the sit-arounds, not so much. Flowers are still a wonderful hostess gift, as long as you don't arrive without a vase, expecting your hostess to arrange and mess up his or her prep schedule. Wine, specialty teas and coffees, sweet treats, soaps, fruit, and unique pads of paper or note cards are all useful, thoughtful, and they don't clutter up the recipients home! It also alleviates that "oh, this was a gift I have to display," guilt. Traditional hostess gifts have endured for a reason!! All that being said, if you've known your hostess for 20 years and any of the above are perfect for that person--great ideas!
Phoebe Lucky me, I can get coyote skulls for free (ick). I was disappointed to discover the glass terrarium was only about five inches. Also, rather than purchasing handmade soaps or lotions online, look to local crafters. You will be getting it fresh and have the opportunity to smell/try before you buy.
carolevans Here is the perfect hostess gift to add to your list - Party on a Pick - unique beaded cocktail and appetizer picks. They even come in a gift box - no wrapping required! See all the colors at www.etsy.com/shop/carolcreationstahoe. Very reasonable too at $15.00 plus $2 shipping. I received a set of these from a friend with a jar of gourmet olives. Perfect!
vmurphy928 I really liked the coyote skull; which is strange, because I'm a great defender of animal rights. What can I tell you? Different strokes for different folks!
Thanks for all the great ideas!
