10 Ways to Beautify Your Bathroom (one comment)

I am constantly trying to update the decor of my apartment. I sometimes feel like this is a project that will never end because there is always something more that I want to do with my home. However, there is one room in my house that I feel is amost complete. That room is my bathroom.

I suppose that the bathroom is an easier space than others to get settled in terms of design. It's a small space and it's function is typically limited. This limits the number of things that you'll want to do in there to decorate. Nevertheless, getting it really complete was a challenge for me - and one that I truly enjoyed.

It was fun for me to choose each piece that went into the design of my bathroom. From the shower curtain to the vintage flower vase that sits on my sink, each piece was selected purposefully. This is how all design should be done but I found it easier to do for this small area than I have for the rest of the home.

Here's a look at ten ways that you can start to beautify your bathroom. I believe that these ten design ideas can be used to pull together the design of other rooms as well. I'll have to keep you posted as I put them to use in the rest of my apartment!
1. Add color. This is the best tip that I've found for decorating any room of the house and it's true in the bathroom as well. Don't be afraid to paint the walls and then add signature pieces (like the sink and curtains here) to enhance the effect of the paint.

2. Use colored accent pieces if you don't want to paint. I think that color is great but a lot of people do prefer to keep the bathroom white. A touch of red in the different pieces throughout the bathroom makes this white room a lot more interesting!

3. Get a great shower curtain. The shower curtain can really make a dramatic difference in the bathroom. It's the equivalent of a great piece of furniture in other rooms.

4. Wallpaper is another great choice for adding patterns, texture and colors to the walls of your bathroom. It's making a comeback these days so it's something I think is at least worth looking into.

5. Add a terrific mirror to your bathroom. I love decorative mirrors. Most bathrooms have mirrors so why not make yours one that really stands out and sets a mood for the room?

6. Choose a sculpture for the bathroom. You can use the bathroom to show off a favorite item that you want everyone to see. After all, most of your guests will use your bathroom at one time or another. Select something peaceful to create a spa-like mood for the room.

7. Add art and knick knacks. You can also create a fun bathroom for showing off art, sculptures and knick knacks. You can hang art on the walls or install a corner cabinet like this one to hold your pieces. Alternatively, you could put up photos in the bathroom.

8. Take design cues from other rooms. I love the curtains around this bathtub. They're unusual to see in a bathroom, though. Most people save nice stuff like this for rooms such as living rooms. I think that if it works in another room, it might make an interesting statement in the bathroom as well.

9. Go for opulence with period pieces. Some people have bathrooms that look like they're out of another era. I love the idea of this. If you're going to do it, go all the way and make the room a truly special part of the house!

10. Renovate to create your dream bathroom. If you're really bold then you can do a complete bathroom renovation. I love the jacuzzi tub and the windows in this bathroom.
