Don't skip it...creative Re-use is the answer
When we undertake a project we love to re-use old and unwanted materials, fittings and fixtures which would otherwise be refuse or recycled. Otherwise we would be adding horribly to the increased output of carbon by transportation/ landfill energy use, recycling plant energy and reconstitution energy use and by requiring ever new materials in their place and their embodied energies.
Self finishing and natural materials are best. Creative reFormation and quirky results add to the charm and uniqueness of a space. Here in a house you can see we re-used a spiral stair to turn it into a new bookshelves hung from the ceiling, copper pipes from the heating system were turned into apothecary shelves and in Australia we reused timbers left over from the winery process and an old road bridge.
Even cardboard tubes used to transport drawings and sewage plumbing fixtures can be cleverly reused.
