Whether you just acquired a new and modern sideboard or inherited the one that's been in the family since the fifties, a sideboard can not only incorporate into a room with panache--it can be used in countless ways.
Although traditionally used in a dining room to store serving platters, I think this piece reaches its pinnacle of style and personality when a dweller uses it to fit their needs. Some ideas for how to use a sideboard:
CREATE A CLEANER WORK SPACE. Working from home in any capacity and not having a dedicated space for materials can prove a challenge. A sideboard that masks as a chic and understated piece in the same room as a small table can transform the room into a work space by day, lounge area by night.
THE TOYS, THE TOYS! Similarly, it can be challenging to stylishly incorporate children's toys into a space. A sideboard keeps the clutter out of view, yet simply opening the doors allows for easy access and a conscientious educational environment for tots.
DISPLAY YOUR COLLECTIONS. Whether a closed sideboard, or a refurbished and exposed doorless one, use the space to display a collection within the perimeters of this defined space. Organized chaos, allowing for freedom to express without overtaking a room with clutter.
YES, GO ORIGINAL. Stack those fine white plates and espresso cups, set up a cocktail-hour mini-bar in it. Or put a TWIST ON THE ORIGINAL by stacking only coffee and tea service items and lining espresso and coffee machines along the top. Think, well, outside the box.

Who knows what is inside this sleek and curved sideboard, but the lamp and art on top make this a center of style in this room.

A unique facade to this sideboard that provides a great surface for those vases and contributes to the geometric simplicity of this space.

Sideboards don't have to be retro-fifties, if that's not your aesthetic aspirations. The piece actually originated in the 18th century, and the graceful curves of this (much newer) example hearken to such a time.

This streamlined sideboard has been given new detail in this unique design.
This modern built-in version allows for display up top, storage below, and the surface area that original designs offered. It economically tucks entirely into this space and helps set the stage of this deliberate dining area.
A closer look.

Black and heavier (note how the drawers go to the floor rather than the piece sitting on four taller legs), a sideboard like this would look great in a library. Anywhere, actually.

A unique finish gives this sideboard a solid front, with detail. It's hard to tell where it opens or how many drawers it has. A piece of art itself, I like the mystery.

This one's almost hard to detect at first glance. It blends so beautifully with its surroundings, yet can stand on its own with distinction.
