So, the joke is that you shouldn't make your guest room too nice because your friends or family will overstay their welcome. But, that's just an old saying and not something to be taken seriously. There is something special about creating a warm and inviting living space for your guests — it shows how much you care. Take a room in your home and fill it with all the best amenities to create a relaxing environment. Then send out the invites. Your guests will appreciate the thought that went into their stay.
Creating the perfect guest room is a fairly simple process. Here are six ideas on how to make your guests feel welcome and encourage them to hang out for a while.
Creating the perfect guest room is a fairly simple process. Here are six ideas on how to make your guests feel welcome and encourage them to hang out for a while.
1. Infuse a sense of humor. Tell your guests, "The fish was 'this' big!"(While holding out your arms like you're telling a fishing story). In what is otherwise a beautiful and well-appointed guest room, the bluefin tuna mounted on the wall brings in a much-appreciated humorous touch.
2. Play with color. In my opinion, a guest room should be fun and colorful with something a little unexpected. This elegant green, black and white room is all about color, color and more color. With three or four different shades of green, an elegant chandelier above the bed and a bevy of black and white patterns, this room is enveloped in color.

Bright splashes of orange and a graphic piece of art balanced against cool, pale blue make me think of the shore. This guest room feels like a perfect landing spot after a day on the beach or strolling the boardwalk.
3. Create a relaxing environment. The classic combination of pale blue and chocolate brown define the elegant nature of this relaxing guest room. The coverlet and comforter combination is a great way to provide the necessary flexibility for how your guests like to sleep. Some like lots of covers, some like fewer.
4. Don't forget the younger guests. I see a massive slumber party about to happen in this guest room designed just for the kids. Four bunk beds and loads of storage give the children their very own spot for an extended stay.

5. Provide a writing desk for a complete vacation experience. Part of the vacation experience is sitting down and putting pen to postcard to share special memories with those back home. A simple writing desk can be a post card writing station or give your guest a place to check up on the latest Houzz updates.

In this spring green room, a secretary doubles as a nightstand, which is also a great space-saving trick for smaller rooms.

6. Nothing sweeter than a suite for your guests. A converted attic, complete with sleeping arrangements, sitting area and a writing desk gives your guests a home away from home. Just be careful because they might never want to leave.
| This little contemporary guest suite provides all the conveniences of home: a bed, TV viewing area and a desk. If they're not careful, I just might move in. The deep brown wall helps to make the room seem longer than it really is.

One thing you forgot - a guest book so that you can look back in years to come and remember all the people who came to enjoy your hospitality.
We add - chocolates on the pillow, plenty of shampoo/conditioner etc, fluffy pillows and bathrobes, postcards and stamps.
For my whimsy, I found these awesome metal hooks at Cost Plus World Market recently that are a sharks head with half a human torso hanging out the mouth.
Thank you!
Thanks for the idea book, Jason.
I dislike sharing my office space because while guests are there I can't go in and use my computer, it would take their privacy.
thanks for the wonderful ideas
