A Different Kind Of Beach House
Don't get me wrong, I have an ongoing love affair with the classic beach house look. White beadboard mixed with pale blues, greens, and yellows, comfortable country furniture and linens. But another type of beach house has captured my imagination. A beach house that could be perched in the woods above the water, with lines and finishes inspired by the spirit of Frank Lloyd Wright. Pale warm woods, modern furniture, and limited color palettes that allow the peaceful setting to become the star.
There is certainly something intriguing about such a beach home, perhaps situated in a more northern region and surrounded by trees. This setting creates a special feeling that only a home nestled in the woods can have. Then add in a water view, could there be a more perfect spot for a bit of relaxation?

Wood encased double height windows are perfectly situated to take full advantage of the location of the home. There is minimal ornamentation in the room. Rather, comfortable seating faces the view, a large coffee table provides a surface for drinks and reading materials, while an iconic Eames chair sits front and center. This is what these beach homes are about. The view, natural wood, simplicity and a modern touch or two.

Here is another view of the room pictured in the first photo of this Ideabook. The windows wrap around the entire room to take advantage of both the water and woods view, with a roaring fire placed between the two for coziness. Notice the firewood stacked beneath the hearth...clever.

The only color in this space is brought in through the pale wood planks lining the walls. Casual comfort. The wood is warm and brings a wonderful texture and sense of movement to the pared down design of the bedroom.

The organic table adds a soft touch to this space, which is a stunning mix of neutral woods, a slightly curved wall, strong beams and sharp lines, evident in the cement floors and soapstone countertops. Or are they concrete? Regardless, this home can not be adequately described in words.

Cameron was here, evidently! The angled ceiling with windows placed high above the kitchen cabinetry reference the idea of the traditional A-frame cabin set in a woods. The clean and minimal interior is soften by the presence of the wooded area just outside the walls.
