Ten Tips for Giving Your Bathroom Personality (8 comments)
1. Don't limit yourself to typical materials. Hardwood floors are not the first floor material that pops into most of our heads when we think of bathrooms.
SIDE NOTE: The simplicity of this room makes it beautiful. White walls let you appreciate the horizontal boards, and the contrast between the tub and the warm woods is stunning.

2. Approach bathroom design like you would living room or bedroom design. This will inspire unexpected design moves. Whoever designed this bathroom treated it like any other room in the house. Notice the wallpaper, chandelier, wallpaper and cabinet, and, O.K., the big tree? It sounds crazy on paper but it looks amazing.

3. Don't run to a big box store and grab typical cabinets, mirrors, and light fixtures. Look at how beautiful this mirror is. It allows the trellis print wallpaper to show through. Also, pay attention to light fixtures. These sconces are the icing on the cake.

4. Having said that, you can make simple mirrors and fixtures work well in a streamlined bathroom. Here the unique pedestal sink is the star of the room.

5. Don't let a small space stop you from going big with design. This red wallpaper and clawfoot are totally unexpected and lend scads of personality to this bathroom.

6. If you want to include a bathtub in another room, go for it. The tile and curtains allow it to be separated from the other room when necessary.

7. Consider repurposing a front door for the bathroom. If it's a bungalow style door with window panes, you can frost them for privacy.
SIDE NOTE: Does this bathroom open up to some sort of terrace or something? It looks like that door leads directly outdoors!

8. Use unexpected furnishings. The luxurious curtains and lovely slipper chair make this bathroom very glamorous.

9. Let there be (natural) light! The sun adds warmth to this bathroom.

10. Have fun with hardware. The gold toned spout, t.p. holder and light fixture are the only punch of color in this room and it works very well.
SIDE NOTE: I wonder if this is the most popular photo on Houzz? Personally, I cannot stop adding it to ideabooks because I love it so much!
