Great article! To expand a bit on item #4: be sure to always consult the property survey plan before the planning starts -- we see all too many cases where the property line is not where it was thought to be, causing problems with neighbours and necessitating starting over (an expense and stress no one needs!) See our blog post with more info: https://www.protectyourboundaries.ca/blog/location-location-location/

Good point secret pro. I've requested this when the project is complex, time-consuming and involves HOA's and the regulating government bodies. Besides it helps to frame your project. Assuming the client will pay for a survey. Some don't Why. Because a competitor told them they did not need it and saved them money. Stick to your rules and you will win

I love the line in the article that says a "no maintenance landscape" is one cared for by a maintenance co. "No maintenance" garden simply does not exist. Some designs are absolutely lower maintenance than others. Often I find even maintenance companies over prune and over maintain. The best way to ensure easy care is pick the right plant for the right site conditions, hire a gardener and an arborsit to take care of your investment and try not a hire the cheapest mow blow and clip company you can find. If you are doing it alone don't over prune! Once things are sheared it is next to impossible to get them back to the intended natural shape/form.
