12 Features You Don't Want to Miss When Designing Your Dream Closet
Do you remember shopping for your first home? If you were like most new homeowners, your focus was probably on finding a home in a particular area of town, with the square footage you needed and still within your budget. Closet design isn't always utmost in the mind of first time homebuyers. Funny thing, though…by the time you’re out house hunting for your second or third home, closet space tends to garner a lot more attention. Families grow, careers change, we pick up new hobbies and accumulate stuff…lots of stuff. All these changes tend to create the need for additional closet space, or, if nothing else, better design of the closet space we already have.
Do you have closets that function well for your needs? It always seems this space where we normally begin and end each day, is so often overlooked. Dare I go so far as to say, the design of your closet and how well it works for your needs, could even impact the course of your day?! Does your closet space function well...starting you off on the right foot each morning? Or, is it a source of frustration as you find yourself running late searching for the mate to your favorite pair of shoes?
If you’re contemplating a closet(s) upgrade in your present home, here are 12 fab features you may want to consider:

If you’re contemplating a closet(s) upgrade in your present home, here are 12 fab features you may want to consider:
1. Are you are renting and can't make any structural changes? Or, is a closet renovation just not in the budget? Consider incorporating a small "china" cabinet for some additional storage. Wouldn't this be great filled with sweaters, purses or t-shirts, too?
3. When designing your closet, if you have the room, create a nice spot to sit for putting on or taking off your shoes. Now if this bench were in my closet, it would end up covered with the first 2-3 outfits I always end up rejecting each morning before finally making up my mind.
Don't have room for a bench? A little stool would be just perfect. Also, it will come in handy for reaching those infrequently used items you keep stored on the top shelf.

| 5. Chandeliers...they're not just for dining rooms anymore! Seriously, would you not feel like the CEO of a major company walking into this closet? You can pick up a good size vintage chandelier for under $300 in many thrift/antique shops. If it's true you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have...this would be a great closet in which to work that concept! |

6. Looking for some more space...think attic! This may be my favorite closet of all. It feels like a little escape...a hideaway from the rest of the world. You could sneak up here to dream and draw, creating a few clothing designs of your own. Love the sweet little chandelier...so perfect in this cozy closet.
7. Do you collect designer handbags? Give each one their own shelf where they'll stay free from harrm, while creating a nice display.
8. Incorporate a spot for a clothes hamper...so convenient!
9. Consider drawers with clear fronts...makes finding the item you need so much easier when you shuffle in half awake on those mornings when life calls waaay too early.
12. What a perfect way to end the day...putting on your jammies under the glow of Orion's Belt and the Big Dipper. :-)
