Navy blue is re-emerging as a popular color in mainstream home decor — but not as part of nautical-themed spaces. Fresh interpretations of navy blue are making rooms feel more dramatic and luxurious. You can also get this look in your home by using navy blue in your upholstery, fabrics, and painted furniture finishes. Its rich tone grounds a space with chicness, and will instantly dress up any room of your home. Check out some ways to add navy blue to your furnishings.

Navy blue drapes add a seductive touch from floor to ceiling. Keep the look updated by using silver grommets. This feel will be calming and creates privacy; I would use it in a library or study.
| Navy blue upholstery is making an appearance in furniture items appropriate for any room in your home. Dress it up in a tufted velvet upholstered piece. There is nothing more luxurious and rich to sit on. I just love this "Paradise Blue" Sofa from Horchow. Tips on caring for velvet upholstery- If the fabric begins to look matte, simply brush it in the opposite direction. If liquid spills on it, the best thing to do is take a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel and soak up the excess liquid. Don't rub the spill because this would push the liquid deeper into the fibers. Instead, leave the cloth in place until most or all of the liquid has been absorbed then let it air-dry. Clean as large an area as possible so you don't leave rings.

A popular combination of colors that navy blue is being used with is yellow. It makes sense-they opposite each other on the color wheel. West Elm has recently added a lot of navy blue pieces to their store. If you are looking for a chair with character check out the Everett Kantha. The upholstery is hand stitched kantha-embroidery. Add a knotted felt pillow, such as these from West Elm for a sunny pop of color.

| Here is another example of a navy blue and yellow color combination. A deep bold color sets off bright colors like a happy yellow. In a light bright space, a navy blue rug can ground the room creating a deep rich feel. You can find a rug with a blue and white pattern, or get a remnant rug in a solid navy blue. |

Get a rich feel from your cabinets by painting them a crisp deep blue. Add chrome pulls and watch it come alive. It will completely change the look of your cabinetry! Let the boldness of Benjamin Moore's In The Midnight Hour (#1666) or Farrow & Ball's Drawing Room blue #253 envelop you!
| Need a sectional but afraid of it feeling like one? Leave it to navy blue to make a sectional feel dressed for a party. Crate and Barrel has a rich navy high pile microfiber upholstery for their lounge 3-Piece sectional. |

Navy blue is not as serious as black so people feel more comfortable using it to make a statement. Try a monochromatic color scheme in a living room or dining room. A monochromatic color scheme uses a single color on almost every room surface. Use it against white for the window and door trim as well as the ceiling for a bold punch.

| If you are worried that navy blue is a masculine color, take that thought out of your mind! In kitchens with light cabinetry, navy blue patterned fabrics and upholstery pulls in a feminine vibe. It adds major color and rich beauty. Try a whimsical pattern versus a solid or geometrical one. |

Balance a light floor with a deep blue wall color and patterned rug like this white and navy blue chain-link design. Again, a navy blue rug grounds light spaces very well.

Rich blue upholstered chairs turn a dining room into an upscale event! Blue velvet doesn't just belong inside ring boxes. Have your dining room chairs re-upholstered in a velvet blue, and add silver nail heads for a sparkly finishing touch. If cost is a concern, embellish only the head chairs.
