I was recently drooping over Cole and Son wallcoverings. Bold and unusual patterns that, by their very existence in a space, create the space. Their unique patterns and color combinations create personalized looks and add a sort of zing. Yes, bold patterns add zing to a home. They show that the inhabitant is willing to go out there aesthetically and own their space, boldly. Yet because of their boldness, patterns can take a space from right to very very wrong.
The key is
1. choosing the right pattern
2. in the right increment
3. in the right part of the room
4. and knowing what to balance it with
Whew. It can be hard. But these examples show how, with a little forethought, a pattern can surprise and delight--and anyone can do it.
Provincial and detailed, the monochromatic patterns of these tiles merge to create an almost solid background, balanced by the lighter cabinetry (and beautiful reds and yellows of the food itself.)
