The 8-foot long fireplace in the great room was a bit of a challenge for Hollis. Both she and the client wanted it to have a clean cut, with no glass. In the end, they had the piece custom made with sensors that turn the flame off if someone gets too close. The installation was tricky as well — since the fireplace was made in a single piece, it had to be craned in through the building's roof.

A combination of clean, modern products and pieces with more patina creates a look that's minimalistic but still warm. "The client allowed me a lot of freedom to create an interior that I felt was right for the existing architecture and his lifestyle," says Hollis.

"I love lighting," says Hollis. "I think of it as the jewelry of the home." In the dining room, Hollis used two bold light fixtures designed by Piet Boon. Hollis designed the dining table, bench and wing chairs herself. Dining room is part of the great room, so Hollis decided to use a mirror so that people sitting on the bench could still see the amazing fireplace.

This black-and-leather-outfitted media room is the ultimate man cave. A black Flexform sofa faces the custom built-ins and flat-screen TV. A vintage zebra-hide rug adds texture while remaining in the color palette.

Hollis designed the home so the family room would open up to the kitchen, which makes it ideal for entertaining. Motorized Lutron solar shades roll down over the windows on those rare, sunny San Francisco days. For the walls, Hollis opted for a custom white matte paint by Donald Kaufman. The sofa in the family room is from Casa Milano, and the sleek lounge chairs are from B&B Italia.

The streamlined white and stainless steel kitchen is a minimalist work of art. Wall-mounted stainless steel appliances from Gaggenau are installed into the white matte lacquer cabinetry from Boffi. The side-by-side refrigerator and freezer are from Gaggenau, and are located behind a white panel on the left wall.

| Hollis designed the bed, made of White European Oak with a suede headboard. A soft cowhide at the foot, adds a great sense of texture to the otherwise clean space. Although the client had a very specific vision, he let Hollis take the reigns. "The best part about this project was the fact that the client trusted me — enough to design everything from the interior architecture to the towels," she says.
