I love the gothic, cartoon style of Tim Burton and movies like Coraline, and Dr. Suess is just a more colorful version. Thinking about truly making my house reminiscent of my tastes made me go searching for things that might be found in these movies. I want my home to be comfortable, of course-but why not feel like I'm walking into a fantasy land at the same time?

The first question is one of stripes-black and white stripes tend to figure prominently. Think Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas... but this can be done in such a classy way. One the floor it would just bring out the accents throughout the room...

On the couch it's a completely different beast. With the walls that beautiful Tiffany's blue it just gives it a super sophisticated look.

But here, if this were used for a small niche area it would be much more dramatic. This certainly couldn't take up much room with such small stripes, however.

Mackenzie Childs has a striped bombay chest-but this was the closest on here to something similar, and I love it almost as much. I would love to paint older furniture with some of these dramatic patterns. Again, this could carry the theme out of the main room into a hallway.
