Versatile lamp combines Baroque tradition with modern materials

It's so much fun when designers mash up classic forms with modern materials. In the case of the Bourgie Lamp, designer Ferruccio Laviani crafted traditional Baroque shapes from a contemporary material, polycarbonate. The result is a contemporary lamp that gives a wink and a nod to an era where the more ornate something was, the better.

Laviani's design adds ingenuity to the mix. Its lampshade is a matching polycarbonate, and the height can be adjusted by adding spacers between the base and the shade.
