Purple. Few colors cause such visceral reactions. Either you love purple and must surround yourself with it or you detest it. And I would say that most people, whether they like purple or not, are scared of using this color.
If done correctly, though, purple can imbue a space with much-needed color and a level of richness few other colors can achieve. It can be a good balance against brighter, warmer colors and, in the right shade, can even play the role of a neutral.
The key is to use purple in just the right tone and amount, and with other colors that play off the its natural depth. In this ideabook, we'll focus on the deeper tones of purple, such as plum, amethyst and eggplant. (By the way, did you know that purple die was originally created using the mucus of a particular sea snail? I had no idea.)

| 1. Deep purple with natural wood tones. Purple adds depth and playfulness to a room with warm wood tones. In this clean and contemporary kitchen, the formality of the marble counters and backsplash contrast the softness of the wood. The plum wall surrounding the refrigerator plays between the marble and wood, keeping this whole space from getting too serious. A color like Benjamin Moore's Kalamata AF-630 pairs perfectly with natural wood tones. |

I simply love the idea of painting this wall at the end of a hallway a dark purple to make it recede even further. It feels as if it's a mile away. Throw on a flame-orange painting, and you have a real destination spot in your home.

Last week I painted my kitchen purple (which is more of a magenta shade) and I love it! It's just as lively as it is soothing and I couldn't be happier with the results. Photos to come!
And I agree- purple and glam go hand in hand.

It's funny, I like purple, especially the deeper shades and my favorite color is orange, but I don't think I would use just those 2 colors in room together without having all the other colors of the rainbow along with them. I do love the elegance of purple with wood and silver though. I've noticed these combinations in more contemporary spaces, like pictured above, leaving them with a more lively, whimsical feel.
Here's an example of a faux linen removable and reusable wallcovering in Mary Douglas Drysdale's Signature Color, Whispers of Iris.
Like the yellow pops in the other post, I love the neutral rooms with the pops of purple. The second photo of the dark table with those purple chairs is really nice. I've really learned some things today about purple and yellow and the ways they can be used in a room and look great.
Here's a bench I did in a similar-color fabric and that same purple paint from the guest room (sorry I couldn't get it to rotate). Plus a round table with "donut" benches in my breakfast nook.
The other photo is a color scheme I love from a guest house I stayed in one time. I'm crazy about purple and green!
